Facet Fusion Using TruFUSE is indicated for the treatment of:
Back pain due to facet degeneration
Patients with facet degeneration due to arthritis will often present with low back pain that is present predominantly when the spine is in extension (arching the low back). Diagnosis of facet based back pain may be confirmed with x-ray, CAT scan, MRI and facet injections.

Back pain due to minor instability of the spine
Degeneration of the spine may be related to arthritis. This process may result in increased motion of the spine and can produce very significant back pain. When minor instability is recognized, TruFUSE dowels may be inserted minimally invasively to eliminate excess motion and provide relief of back pain.

Spinal instability following spinal decompression (discectomy and/or laminectomy)
The nerves in the spine may be compressed by a degenerated disc or by overgrowth of bone from arthritis. Surgery for these problems may produce instability of the spine, and may require fusions with metal implants. TruFUSE bone dowels have been shown in biomechanical studies to stabilize the spine without the use of screws and rods and may be a minimally invasive way of addressing spinal instability.

Degenerative disc disease as an adjunct to a fusion across the disc space (anterior lumbar interbody fusion, posterior lumbar interbody fusion)
