Press Room back to Press Room main >> TruFUSE(R) Minimally Invasive Facet Fusion Procedure Tops 3,000 Spinal Levels CLEARWATER, Fla., May 15 - /PRNewswire/ -- minSURG Corporation, a subsidiary of Orthopedic Development Corporation, announced today that over 6,000 TruFUSE(R) dowels have been used to treat chronic facet-oriented back pain or to supplement other procedures. Typically, two dowels are required to fuse each of the two facet joints in each spinal level. TruFUSE, one of the first surgical solutions to treat intractable back pain without precluding other options, has been in limited distribution since late 2006 and achieved nationwide distribution in 2008. According to minSURG CEO James Doulgeris, the company has now trained and certified over 100 physicians in 2008 to perform the TruFUSE procedure and is accredited in over 200 hospitals around the country. "With nationwide distribution and 300 trained and certified TruFUSE representatives now online, we are well positioned to service our marketplace," Doulgeris said. "Our comprehensive distribution, demonstrated good-to-excellent clinical outcomes in over 98% of TruFUSE patients,(1) and strong interest from the medical community provide a solid foundation to build upon." Painful facet joints are cited as the most common cause of chronic back pain, a leading cause of long-term disability. TruFUSE uses specially designed bone dowels to stop facet joints from moving, which is intended to eliminate or dramatically reduce back pain caused by a variety of reasons. TruFUSE is also used to supplement other back surgeries when more invasive or destructive means are not required. The TruFUSE procedure is intended to fuse the facet joints through a natural healing process for a long-term solution. Because TruFUSE causes minimal tissue damage, it does not preclude other options, including non-surgical alternatives, and TruFUSE can be used earlier than other, more invasive spine fusion methods.
